Playlists: create, manage, and listen

Create story playlists, arrange their order, resume listening, and manage playback options.

What playlists are

A playlist is a personal, ordered collection of Stories for sequential listening. A Story can appear only once in a playlist.

Stories and playlists are separate. Removing a Story from a playlist, or deleting the playlist, does not delete the Story from My Stories.

Create a playlist

Open Playlists, enter a title, and choose Create. You can add Stories from My Stories with Add to playlist. A playlist can also be created while adding a Story.

Manage Stories in a playlist

Open a playlist to manage its Stories:

  • Drag entries to change their playback order.
  • Remove an individual entry to take that Story out of the playlist.
  • Edit the playlist title and optional description.

Removing an entry only changes this playlist. The Story and its reading progress remain in your library.

Start listening

Choose Play to start at the beginning of the playlist. If the playlist has saved playback progress, choose Resume to return to the last played Story and sentence.

Playlist playback uses the Story's available audio source:

  • YouTube audio when the Story came from a YouTube video
  • Uploaded Story audio when available
  • Generated sentence audio when no story-wide audio source is available

Playback controls

When a playlist has more than one Story, Previous story and Next story move between entries. You can also:

  • Turn Shuffle on to create a new playback order.
  • Turn Repeat on to play the playlist again after the final Story.
  • Tap a sentence or cue to jump to that point in the current Story.

The reading layout still follows the reader's page or sentence mode. See Page mode vs sentence mode.

Progress and resume

Valo Reader saves the last played playlist entry and sentence. Resume uses that saved position, including the matching timestamp for timed YouTube or uploaded audio.

Stories that are still processing, or that do not have playable sentences yet, are skipped during playback. You can return to the playlist later after processing finishes.

Delete a playlist

Use the bin button in the top-right of a playlist card, or choose Delete playlist from the playlist detail page. A confirmation dialog shows how many Stories will be removed from the playlist.

Deleting a playlist removes the playlist and its entries. It does not delete the Stories, their reading progress, or their saved words.
